YouTube - Weird Russian Video: "Incredible video of a 1940's russian lab where a dogs head has been chopped off and kept alive by a simple mechanism. The head responds like a normal dog (tongue moves out, blinks - but no barking cos of no lungs)! No body! Jump to 5:35 for the head part."

Synthetic molecule causes cancer cells to self-destruct: "CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Scientists have found a way to trick cancer cells into committing suicide. The novel technique potentially offers an effective method of providing personalized anti-cancer therapy. Most living cells contain a protein called procaspase-3, which, when activated, changes into the executioner enzyme caspase-3 and initiates programmed cell death, called apoptosis. In cancer cells, however, the signaling pathway to procaspase-3 is broken. As a result, cancer cells escape destruction and grow into tumors."

SPACE.com -- Universe Measured: We're 156 Billion Light-years Wide!: "This article generated quite a few e-mails from readers who were perplexed or flat out could not believe the universe was just 13.7 billion years old yet 158 billion light-years wide. That suggests the speed of light has been exceeded, they argue. So SPACE.com asked Neil Cornish to explain further. Here is his response:"
SPACE.com -- Universe Might be Bigger and Older than Expected: "Scientists now estimate the universe to be about 13.7 billion years old (a figure that has seemed firm since 2003, based on measurements of radiation leftover from the Big Bang) and about 156 billion light-years wide.
The new finding implies that the universe is instead about 15.8 billion years old and about 180 billion light-years wide."
